I left my home in Portland , Oregon in October 2011 also left my husband of 26 years. There was nothing left for us. I went to stay with my daughter in Oklahoma and I stayed till January 2012 then went to stay with a friend in Chandler Arizona it is already May and although I have looked and looked there is no jobs for a 57 year old woman. The skills i have are skills all young people have. So am competing on that level. I have tried fast food, walmart and telemarketing and others as well. . To no avail. There is no welfare help for a single adult under 60 all I can get is food stamps. I have had suggestion after suggestion thrown at me and tried each one. I think that i have tried about everything you can imagine except shacking up with a guy. I would rather be homeless. My sons are all in college and just barely scraping by on their college money. My daughter has helped all she can and my friend cant help me anymore. So on June 4th, 2012. I become homeless. I decided to write a blog about the trials and errors I go through as an almost homeless person. Most people pass the buck instead of helping. I could get a mobile home for $500 and the rent is only 400 that is my goal to somehow get enough money to get me a mobile home.

I can verify what MsSnow has said, as I have spoken with her daily for several months now, although i have never met her in person. She has had several interviews since she has been in Arizona and I know she has a lot to offer. She is of above average intelligence and has a remarkable facility with computers, and she has a special gift for communicating with people which would make her an asset in customer relations of any kind. Why has she not been successful in gaining employment? Her age, for one thing. Her skills, which are obvious, are largely self taught. She is as competent as younger applicants, but may not have the certification to back it up. Which brings up another point....I know she applied for free training in one field, but was rejected because she has no income, therefore pays no taxes, so she didnt qualify. She, in fact, is ineligible for assistance of any kind. She has pursued all avenues to keep a roof over her head. And it is inevitable that unless she finds employment she will be homeless in less than a month
